Matthew J. Karzen

Athens, Georgia

Matt Karzen, LLC emphasizes criminal and civil litigation. We maintain a relatively small case load to ensure that each client receives the time his or her matter needs.

Matt Karzen's career began in 1993 as a court certified law student intern with a District Attorney's office in Colorado. After graduating in the top 10% of his law school class in 1995, Matt spent the next decade as a felony prosecutor, first in Colorado, and then in Athens, Georgia. During that time, Matt worked in both urban and rural settings, handling all matters of criminal investigation and prosecution, from minor alcohol and traffic offenses, to murder, racketeering, narcotics/weapons, sexual assault and fraud.

From early 2000 through late 2002, Matt headed up the Gang Prosecution Unit at the Colorado Department of Law, Office of the Attorney General, handling complex statewide racketeering prosecutions against organized crime. With extended family living in Georgia, Matt and his family moved to Athens in 2002, where Matt worked as the Chief Assistant District Attorney for Georgia's Western Judicial Circuit. In January, 2006, Matt left government service and opened Matt Karzen, LLC.
